Have a Merry Christmas to all of you. Did you ever think that on this coming holidays we tend to overspend our money? That's how Filipinos celebrate Christmas. We buy gifts for our love ones, we buy foods for our "noche buena", and we have homecoming reunions with friends and relatives. In these times when prices are up, we need to find ways to enjoy the high spirits of Christmas without running our pockets dry. The question is HOW?
- Be a wise spender--- use your finances, both cash and credit responsibly. Plan ahead of time of what you will buy. Make a comprehensive list of the things you will need with each needed quantity, and try to stick to the items listed when you were in the grocery store. Avoid adding anything that are unnecessary. If you use your credit cards, be responsible to know your due dates to avoid penalties.
- Maximize Your Gas---we all know that during holidays we plan to visit our friends, deliver gifts, do the shopping chores, attending Christmas gatherings and others. Whether you commute with your own car or through public vehicle, try to share in reducing your carbon footprint by making the most of your gas mileage. Take note of all the places you need to go and arrange them according to their proximity. Do not forget to turn off your engine while waiting. Make sure that you also maximize the use of your LPG in preparing your foods for "noche buena."
- Save Money on Energy and Utilities---Prepare two basins for washing the dishes, one for soaping and the other for rinsing. You can save more water usage compared to washing one dish at a time in running water. Avoid overloading the refrigerator or freezer with your ingredients and left-overs, to maintain a specific temperature as it runs. Especially after parties, there are many leftovers.
Remember, if every household starts with these small ways, significant gains could be seen.
