Toy Dogs are Not Toys!

"Toy Dogs" have become quite popular in the recent years. One of the main reasons of this type of dog having gained so much popularity is the rise in ownership from famous celebrities. In just speaking of the wonderful Pomeranian, the list of famous Pom owners is quite impressive. Sharon Osbourne, Nicole Richie, Paris Hilton, Hilary Duff, Sandra Bullock and Jessica Alba are just a few. The famous people who own Pomeranians do all have one thing in common besides their pets. They are looked upon as role models for quite a large population of teenagers and adults alike. It is for that reason that one must take a realistic approach to owning a Pomeranian needs to be a healthy pet.
Grooming, healthcare issues, proper feeding, providing exercise and training are all elements that should be provided when owning a Pomeranian. Only weighing from 3 to 8 pounds, this toy dogs requires extra special care.

Here are a few pointers to remember:

TEETH
It is important that your pet receive dental care. Pomeranians are more prone than other breeds to tooth loss and bacteria build up. If this bacteria is allowed to run unchecked, it can and eventually will cause problems with your pets health. Luckily for us, maintaining good dental health is fast and easy! Buy enzymatic toothpaste that fights bacteria ( your local vet can reccomend a good brand) and a small toothbrush. Make an effort to brush your dogs teeth everyday. Have your vet do a dental exam about once a year and scaling if necessary.

FUR
Brushing your Pomeranian everyday is a great way to bond with your dogs as well as insure his coat is healthy and shiny. Pomeranians have what is known as a double coat that can easily become matted which makes brushing necessary. A once a week--or every couple of weeks--bath is an easy way to keep your Pomeranian smelling and looking good! Don't forget to groom around his little paws and tail area and clip his nails.

EYES
Like most small dogs, Pomeranian's often have a buildup of discharge fluid from their eyes that can cause a lumpy mess. This buildup can stain the fur and, which must be uncomfortable for him. To avoid this kind of mess, clean the eye area each day with a Q-tip.
